FIRST TRANSNATIONAL MEETING IN TURKEY

 

The first transnational meeting took place in Turkey, hosted by Anadolu University which is the coordinator organization of the Project. The meeting is called as openary meeting for being the first transnational meeting of the Project. The aim of the first transnational meeting is to reach agreement between partner organizations about the scope of the Project concepts and activities. In terms of this main aim the objectives of this meeting are;

  • to clarify project concepts and activities
  • to raise awareness on curent status of the immigrant students in secondary schools
  • to ask local policy makers’ support during project and after it will finish.
  • to prepare project's observation form and interview question form.

Delegates from Anadolu University (Turkey), GEA – Societa cooperativa sociale (Italy), IKS – Interkulturelle Schule Rhein-Main (Germany) and Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education (Turkey) participated to this meeting. Delegates participated to this meeting were İsmail Özkan, Julia Geimer, Masoum Naderi and Hikmet Karartı from IKS; Marco Baldini and Valerio Zangarini from GEA; Aykut Ceyhan, Yıldız Kurtyılmaz, Işıl Kabakçı-Yurdakul, Bircan Ergün-Başak and Ömer Özer from Anadolu University; and Şenay Doğaner and Ömer Garan from Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education. The meeting continued during three days on 12-13-14 June.

The first day of the meeting started with an openary ceremony. The openary ceremony started with the speeches of the Dean of Faculty of Education from Anadolu University Prof. dr. Ferhan Odabaşı, Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education Ministery Hakan Cırıt; the Project coordinator Bircan Ergün-Başak and the Project management staff from Anadolu University Rabia Taş. This openary ceremony was open to the all people those concerned with immigrant students education. Therefore teachers, school principals and academicians were participated to the openary ceremony of the meeting on the first day. The Dean of Faculty of Education from Anadolu University Prof. Dr. Ferhan Odabaşı and Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education Ministery Hakan Cırıt emphasized meaning and importance of the Project; and their support on this Project. The coordinator Dr. Bircan Ergün-Başak introduced the Project scope to the all participants and introduced the Project team from Turkey, Italy and Germany. The Project management staff Rabia Taş informed the participant about future Project posibilities.

After these informative speeches opening ceremony closed and the core Project team delegates started to work on the data collection tools of the Project. They discussed the interviewing and observation forms during first day and obtained the last forms with a consensus. The second day of the meeting, İsmail Özkan, Julia Geimer, Masoum Naderi and Hikmet Karartı from IKS; Marco Baldini and Valerio Zangarini from GEA; Aykut Ceyhan, Yıldız Kurtyılmaz, Işıl Kabakçı-Yurdakul, Bircan Ergün-Başak and Ömer Özer from Anadolu University; and Şenay Doğaner and Ömer Garan from Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education attended to the meetind because they are the core project team.

In second day, a delegate from coordinator organization introduced the data collection process for all partners and the pilot studies conducted in Turkish schools. Then Anadolu University visitation was done with all delegates. Delegates discussed project details with Dean of Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Ferhan Odabaşı and Rectorate of University Prof. Dr. Şafak Ertan Çomaklı.

 

The third day of the meeting the core project team attended to the meeting. They visited a Turkish project school in which immigrant students and native students are being educated together. The school staff introduced their inclusive activities to the delegates from partner organizations.

Then Masoum Naderi who is a delegates from German project partner, conducted a lesson with a classroom in which immigrant and native students are being educated together. Then the core project team visited Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education Ministery Hakan Cırıt. After this visitation project meeting was closed.

This meeting have several outcomes. Firstly all project delegates come together and make connection in person for the first time. The project scope, concepts, data collection tools and data collection process are being clarified and the last form of the data collection tools are obtained in a consensus. Moreover this meeting has been contributed to the awareness on the role of schools in immigrant students’ social integration.
